Individual Sessions
The heart of what we do.
Come as You Are
Life can be heavy. Sometimes what a person needs most is a place to slow down, step away from the noise, and spend time with someone who will listen.
Individual Sessions at Common Grace Grounds are one-on-one experiences built around relationship, horses, meaningful work, quiet, and honest conversation. Each guest is paired with a caring leader for intentional time around the Grounds.
There is no pressure to perform and no expectation that you arrive with the right words or know exactly what you need.
A Few Things to Know
-
Time Together
Sessions are generally 60–90 minutes, with room to adapt to the guest and the day.
-
Arranged Individually
Sessions are scheduled based on the guest’s needs, leader and horse availability, safety considerations, and overall fit.
-
Our Goal: No Cost
Our goal is to provide Individual Sessions free of charge to the children, families, and community members we serve.
Built Around Relationship
Horses are at the heart of Individual Sessions, but every guest connects differently.
Time together may include caring for animals, working in the garden, completing a simple project, walking the property, sitting around the fire, or spending time in the gym when fitness connects with a guest’s interests.
These activities give us natural opportunities to listen, build trust, and get to know one another. The session can adapt as that relationship grows.
What Does a Session Look Like?
Serve Together
Begin with a simple, age-appropriate task that contributes to life around the Grounds. That might mean helping in the barn, feeding an animal, working in the garden, or caring for the property.
Working alongside one another gives the guest and leader a natural way to connect while reminding guests that their contribution matters.
Care for the Horse
Approach, halter, lead, groom, and prepare the horse together. Guests are encouraged to become increasingly involved in caring for their horse as their confidence and ability grow.
Work Together
Ride, practice groundwork, navigate a simple challenge, or walk together. No previous horse experience is necessary, and riding is not guaranteed or required.
The goal is to build a safe relationship through communication, patience, responsibility, and trust.
Slow Down
Let the horse graze beside you, walk through the pasture, sit nearby, talk, or simply enjoy the quiet.
Some guests want conversation. Others need silence. Both are welcome.
Give Back
Remove tack, groom the horse, return equipment, and help care for the horse before leaving.
Learning to care for another living creature creates opportunities to practice gratitude, consistency, responsibility, and service.
Why Horses?
Horses do not know our reputation, accomplishments, diagnosis, or the labels others have given us. They respond to the person standing in front of them.
Their behavior and the way they communicate invite us to practice patience, awareness, boundaries, and trust. Caring for a horse also gives us something meaningful to do for a living creature outside ourselves.
There can be something grounding about slowing down beside a horse, learning to communicate, and discovering that a relationship develops gently over time.
Who Are Sessions For?
Individual Sessions are available to guests of all ages. Some come during seasons of grief, stress, loneliness, or difficulty. Others are looking for connection, confidence, rest, or a place where they can be known.
No diagnosis, formal referral, horse experience, or church involvement is required. Inquiries may come from individuals, parents, families, churches, schools, Human Services, or community organizations.
Common Grace Grounds is a Christian ministry, but guests do not need to belong to a church or share our beliefs to participate. We seek to love people faithfully and make room for honest conversations about life, hope, purpose, faith, and God when they naturally arise.
What Sessions Are—and Are Not
Individual Sessions are relational ministry, not therapy. Our leaders are not therapists, and these sessions are not psychotherapy, clinical counseling, or equine therapy.
Sessions may complement professional support, but they are never intended to replace appropriate medical or mental-health care.
There is no requirement to disclose personal experiences, no rigid curriculum, and no guarantee that every session will include riding. We cannot promise a particular outcome. What we offer is intentional time, meaningful activities, encouragement, and people willing to listen and walk alongside you.
Ask About an Individual Session
